Terms & Conditions
Please read these terms before using HomeVidStream.
Effective date: 2026-06-08
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of HomeVidStream, a Windows desktop application and companion website that enables users to stream and play their own locally stored video files across devices on a local area network (and, for higher-tier plans, remotely), together with associated account management, license activation, and metadata services at homevidstream.com (collectively, the "Service") operated by AideaMaker LLC ("AideaMaker," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account, purchasing a license, activating a license, or otherwise using the Service, you ("you," "your," or "Customer") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our handling of data as described herein. If you are entering into these Terms on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity, in which case "you" refers to that entity.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and capable of forming a binding contract to use the Service. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Service complies with all laws and regulations that apply to you.
3. Accounts and Security
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials, license keys, and activation codes issued to you.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You must notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security.
- We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to safeguard your credentials.
- Each license seat is bound to a specific device. You may deactivate a seat to free it for transfer to another device, subject to the transfer-cooldown period then in effect.
4. Licenses and Permitted Use
- The Service is provided to you under a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license, subject to the seat limits, term lengths, device bindings, and tier restrictions associated with your plan (Free, Basic, Standard, Professional, or Enterprise).
- You may not exceed the seat limits of your license, share access with unauthorized users, or use the Service for commercial redistribution or resale of streamed content.
- You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, signing keys, or secrets from the Service except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
- You may not circumvent, tamper with, or attempt to bypass any technical enforcement, activation, device-binding, or anti-piracy mechanism.
- The Service periodically validates your license against our license server. After the offline grace period (default 24 hours), the Service may limit functionality until validation succeeds.
- We reserve the right to suspend, revoke, or refuse any license that we reasonably believe is being used in violation of these Terms.
5. Fees, Billing, and Subscriptions
- Prices are stated at the point of purchase and are exclusive of applicable taxes unless otherwise noted. You are responsible for all applicable taxes.
- Subscription plans (Basic, Standard, Professional, Enterprise) renew automatically for successive monthly terms at the then-current rate unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- By providing a payment method you authorize AideaMaker and its payment processors to charge the applicable fees, including recurring renewal fees, to that method.
- Payments are processed by third-party payment providers; your use of those providers is subject to their own terms.
- The Free plan is provided at no charge subject to the feature and seat limits of that tier.
Plan Deprecation and Tier Changes
AideaMaker may from time to time retire, replace, or modify subscription plans ("Plan Deprecation"). If your active subscription plan is deprecated:
- We will notify you at least fourteen (14) days before the migration deadline via the email address on your account and/or an in-app notice.
- You will have the opportunity to choose a replacement plan during the notice window. If you do not choose, your subscription will automatically migrate to a designated fallback plan at the end of the notice period.
- Migration takes effect at the end of your current billing period; access under the deprecated plan continues until that date.
- Perpetual (one-time) licenses are never subject to forced migration.
- Any upgrade to a higher-priced plan requires a new payment; downgrades or moves to a free tier require no additional charge.
- AideaMaker is not liable for any loss of features or functionality resulting from a plan deprecation or tier migration carried out in accordance with these Terms.
6. No Refunds
All sales are final. There are no refunds and no pro-rated refunds for cancellations. Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals but does not entitle you to a refund of any amount already paid, in whole or in part, for the current or any prior term. Fees paid are non-refundable to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, including in cases of partial-term cancellation, non-use, or early termination.
7. Cancellation and Termination
- You may cancel a subscription at any time through your account portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid term, and no refund is provided for the remaining period.
- We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, or any license, at any time for any violation of these Terms or any conduct we reasonably believe is harmful to the Service, other customers, or us.
- Upon termination, your right to use the Service and any associated licenses ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including sections on fees, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to stream, distribute, or make available content for which you do not hold the necessary rights, licenses, or permissions.
- Use the Service for any unlawful, infringing, or fraudulent purpose.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, signing keys, or secrets from the Service except to the extent expressly permitted by law.
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service, including by attempting to gain unauthorized access to any system or data.
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the Service except as expressly authorized in writing.
- Use the Service to stream or share content that violates any applicable copyright, privacy, obscenity, or other law.
Lawful Use and Private Distribution
The Service is intended for personal, private use by a defined group of authorized users (e.g. household members or licensed seat holders). It is not intended for, and you may not use it for, public broadcast, public streaming, or distribution of content to the general public.
You are solely responsible for ensuring that all content you stream, share, or make available through the Service complies with applicable copyright, privacy, and other laws, and that you hold all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions for such use.
AideaMaker, HomeVidStream, and the License Verification Server (LVS) are not responsible for any unlawful use of the Service or for any infringement of third-party intellectual-property or other rights arising from content you choose to stream or distribute. All such liability rests solely with you.
9. Your Content and Media Files
- You retain full ownership of all video files and media stored on your own hardware and accessed through the Service ("Your Content").
- You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the lawful right to store, stream, and (where applicable) share any content you access or distribute through the Service.
- AideaMaker does not host, transmit, store, review, or control Your Content. The Service operates as local software on your own devices; media files remain on hardware you own and control.
- We are not liable for any claim arising from Your Content, including claims of copyright infringement, privacy violation, or any other infringement of a third party's rights.
- We may terminate your account if we receive credible notice that you are using the Service to infringe on third-party rights.
No Monitoring of Video Traffic
Video and media content streamed through the Service travels directly between your own devices. It does not pass through, and is never routed by or accessible to, AideaMaker’s servers.
The desktop application communicates with the License Verification Server (LVS) solely to validate your license and register your server’s network address for remote-access features. No video or media content is ever transmitted to, proxied by, or accessible to AideaMaker, HomeVidStream, or LVS at any time.
AideaMaker has no technical means to inspect, record, or access any content you stream or view through the Service.
Encrypted Remote Streaming
When accessing your home media server from outside your local network, HomeVidStream may use WebRTC to stream video through an encrypted DataChannel directly between your home server and your browser.
- Encryption scope. WebRTC’s mandatory DTLS encryption protects data in transit between your home server and your remote browser. Encryption is applied at the network layer; AideaMaker makes no warranties about the security of your home network, your browser’s storage, or any other part of your computing environment.
- Direct connection. Video data travels directly from your home server to your browser without routing through AideaMaker’s servers. AideaMaker has no access to your media content transmitted via WebRTC.
- Automatic fallback. If an encrypted WebRTC connection cannot be established (due to network configuration, firewall settings, or browser compatibility), the Service automatically falls back to the standard authenticated HTTP stream. The fallback connection is still protected by the HMAC session grant but is not WebRTC-encrypted.
- Third-party STUN. WebRTC NAT traversal uses publicly available STUN servers (Google). Only your public IP address is shared with the STUN server during connection setup; no media is routed through them.
- No guarantee of availability. Encrypted streaming is provided on a best-effort basis and may not function in all network environments. AideaMaker disclaims liability for any failure of the encrypted streaming feature.
On-Device Conversion
The Service includes an optional on-device media conversion feature (“Conversion”) that uses ffmpeg (a third-party open-source tool) to transcode or re-wrap video files stored on your own hardware into a browser-compatible format.
- Originals are never modified or deleted. Conversion creates a new output file alongside your original; the source file is untouched at all times.
- You bear full responsibility for ensuring you have the lawful right to transcode, re-encode, or create derivative copies of any file you submit to Conversion. The right to personal use of lawfully purchased media may vary by jurisdiction; consult applicable law. AideaMaker does not warrant that transcoding any particular file is permissible in your jurisdiction.
- CPU and storage use. Full transcodes can use 100% CPU for extended periods and produce output files roughly comparable in size to the source. You are responsible for ensuring adequate hardware resources and storage space. AideaMaker is not liable for hardware wear, increased energy costs, or data loss resulting from Conversion.
- ffmpeg is third-party software. HomeVidStream invokes ffmpeg as an external tool. AideaMaker does not distribute ffmpeg and is not affiliated with the FFmpeg project. Its licensing terms (LGPL/GPL) apply independently.
- AideaMaker disclaims all liability for errors, data corruption, quality loss, or unexpected results arising from the Conversion feature.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service, including all software, designs, text, graphics, logos, and branding, is owned by AideaMaker LLC or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights. Except for the limited license expressly granted to use the Service, all rights are reserved.

11. Privacy and Data
- We collect and process the account and transaction information necessary to provide, secure, and improve the Service.
- The desktop application communicates with the License Verification Server (LVS) only to validate your activation and to register your server’s network address for remote-access features. No video or media content is ever transmitted to, proxied by, or accessible to AideaMaker, HomeVidStream, or LVS at any time.
- Website account data: when you sign in on homevidstream.com, we store a session token and, if you choose “Remember me”, a persistent authentication cookie (valid for 90 days) in your browser. These tokens are stored securely in our database and can be revoked at any time from Account Settings (“Forget this browser” or “Sign out”).
- Business profile data: if you fill in the My Profile section on the Account page, we store the information you provide (name, company, job title, email, phone, website, mailing address) solely for your own reference and account management. This data is not sold or shared with third parties.
- We implement reasonable security measures, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for obtaining any consents required from your own end users or household members.
United States Only; No GDPR Support
The Service is designed for use within the United States. We do not offer the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the United Kingdom GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act / California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA / CPRA), or any substantially similar non-U.S. or U.S.-state data-protection framework that would obligate us to delete, port, or transfer your data on request. By creating an account, purchasing a license, or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that the Service does not provide any such protections to you.
- Your choice, with full disclosure. We disclose up front that the Service does not offer GDPR (or equivalent) protections. Whether to use the Service knowing this is entirely your decision; we do not screen users on the basis of jurisdiction or stated need for any such protections, and we do not refuse service to anyone for declining to waive a right.
- No right to erasure. We do not provide and are not obligated to provide any mechanism to delete your account, your business profile, your payment records, your audit-log entries, or any other data we have collected in the course of providing the Service. Accounts and associated records are retained for the period we determine necessary for security, billing, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, and legal-compliance purposes.
- Payment ledger immutability. The payment ledger that records every transaction associated with your account is permanently append-only. Once an event is recorded, it is never altered, redacted, exported-then-deleted, or removed under any circumstances — including requests citing GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, or any other erasure right. This is a hard technical property of the Service enforced by database triggers and a cryptographic hash chain; it is not a policy choice we will entertain exceptions to.
- Limited carve-out for non-disclaimable rights. Nothing in this section is intended to disclaim any right you may have under United States federal law or Texas state law that, as a matter of law, cannot be disclaimed by these Terms.
12. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with or depends on third-party providers, including:
- VLC media player (by VideoLAN) — required on the host PC for playback and thumbnail generation. VLC is governed by its own license (LGPL v2.1+).
- TMDb (The Movie Database) — optional metadata and poster images, governed by TMDb's terms and API terms.
- Payment processors — used for subscription billing; your use is subject to their terms.
- License Verification Server (licenseverificationserver.com) — used for license activation and verification.
AideaMaker is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of any third-party service, and your use of those services is governed by their own terms and policies.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including without limitation the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that defects will be corrected. Compatibility with all hardware configurations, network environments, or media formats is not guaranteed.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will AideaMaker or its affiliates, officers, employees, or agents be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or media files, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid to us for the Service in the three (3) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless AideaMaker and its affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your use of the Service; (b) Your Content; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any rights of a third party, including any copyright, privacy, or intellectual-property rights.
16. Changes to the Service or Terms
We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. Material changes will be posted at homevidstream.com/terms with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
17. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
Informal resolution. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to contact us through homevidstream.com/contact and describe the dispute; we will attempt to resolve it informally within 30 days.
Binding arbitration. If informal resolution fails, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service (including any question of arbitrability) will be resolved exclusively by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (or, if you are a business, its Commercial Arbitration Rules), as then in effect. Arbitration will be conducted in Bexar County, Texas, unless both parties agree otherwise in writing. The arbitrator’s award will be final and binding, and judgment may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class action and jury-trial waivers. All claims must be brought in your individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, representative, or mass-action proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims or preside over any class proceeding. Both parties waive all rights to a jury trial.
Small-claims carve-out. Either party may bring an individual claim in a small-claims court of competent jurisdiction in lieu of arbitration.
IP carve-out. Nothing prevents either party from seeking injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual-property rights or confidential information.
Costs. Each party bears its own attorneys’ fees unless the arbitrator awards fees as authorized by applicable law. AAA filing fees are governed by the AAA fee schedule.
18. Severability and Waiver
If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any right or provision will not be deemed a waiver of that right or provision.
19. Entire Agreement
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and AideaMaker regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings. Any product-specific license terms or end-user license agreements presented at activation are incorporated by reference.
20. Contact
Questions about these Terms may be directed to AideaMaker through homevidstream.com/contact.
